Frisky aka Charlie alias Heinz 57

Frisky was a fabulous 'thoroughbred mongrel' with some Wheaten Terrier blood thrown in there too. We got him on a Saturday morning (1st May '76) from my uncle Aidan's grocery shop in John Street (Lwr). At that point he was a stray roughing it on the streets of Sligo. His name was then 'Heinz 57'.

Prior to that he had spent his first 18 months as 'Charlie' hanging around a local hotel where he was fed a combo of scraps and whiskey ! Right to the very end of his long life (almost 17 years) he would jump to attention upon hearing the word 'Charlie'.

Whether racing Brown's Field with 'Sammy' or escorting 'Lady' or scrapping with his adversary 'Tara', Frisky was truly a marvelous dog, both in terms of temperament and sheer beauty (outrightly winning The County Dog Competition at Sligo Race Course in July '78).

Here he is seen in his prime, aged eight, majestically posing whilst enjoying the beach breeze. He died on 15th Sep. '90 and was buried at the family home.
